What's Blue to You at Lower Columbia College, Longview, WA

 

Quite a few HFD members with friends and family in tow, made it to The Art Center at Lower Columbia College, Longview, WA for the opening reception of the What's Blue to You exhibit. I liked how they put the blue and orange quilts together. The whole exhibit really looks great in this space. Following are some photos of the show and the peeps.

High Desert Colors, Elizabeth Bamberger

Elizabeth Bamberger, Shirley MacGregor and Gerrie Congdon had art quilts selected for an exhibit at the Portland Airport. Here are the details:

Title:  Window Seat

Location:  Portland International Airport,  post-security Concourse A

Date:  April  2014 through October 2014

Subject: The exhibit is built around an essay written by Jim Earl, a literature professor at U of O. In the essay, Earl uses images taken from Google Earth to educate people about the land below them as they fly. Click Here to read the essay and see the images that he used.  For the exhibit, the quilts are next to text for which each is visually appropriate.

I would encourage you to check out the essay. If you have flown across the plains or over Oregon, it is a good read.

The Simply Red Opening Reception

Rogue Gallery Exhibit Opening.

What a beautiful show the exhibit at the Rogue Gallery is! Many thanks to Diane Born for pursuing this venue. Apparently, it was their first fiberart exhibit. They are very happy with it. Kudos to the committee for their hard work - Diane Born, Elizabeth Bamberger and Ila McCallum.

That is Chris Brown with her Strata quilt which sold last night at the exhibit. Woo hoo! Here is the red dot to prove it.

I took a few pictures, but got distracted. Hopefully, we will have more to post. There were several of us at the opening. Here is Terry with her quilts.

Rhythm and Hues Opening Reception

It was a rainy drive, but a warm reception at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Museum in Tillamook. Here are a couple of views of one wall of the show. I am sorry I did not get photos of other areas. I hope someone might send them to me.

We had a great turn out of the artists and people who came to see the show.

Congratulations to Mary Arnold who won and Honorable Mention for Belles Fleurs at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX in the World of Beauty Art Pictorial category.

Elements Debuts in Woodburn

The new Elements exhibit officially debuted at the Woodburn Art Center on Saturday, Sept. 8th. The show looks beautiful hung on the freshly painted walls of the gallery. Above are Emily Stevens, Mary Goodson, Diane Born and Elizabeth Bamburger.

I took some photos and will share a few, here. The show was mainly hung by color and not by the elements. Here are two air pieces by Diane Born and Gerrie Congdon with a water piece by Catherine Beard.

Boones Ferry Road, Woodburn, OR 97071 The Art Center is run by volunteers and their hours are Friday and Saturday noon to 3, but they are often open at other times.
