New High Fiber Diet Show, NW Vibes, Opens at Singer Hill Café in Oregon City on Friday, August 5th, Artists' Reception, 5-8pm

The Venue
NW Vibes, a new fiber art show by High Fiber Diet, opens with an Artist Reception on August 5th from 5-8 pm at the Singer Hill Café, 623 7th St, Oregon City, OR. Musical entertainment by “The Sale” will be from 6 to 8 pm. Singer Hill Café’s Fundraiser Friday will donate 25% of food and beverage purchases at the Cafe that evening to the High Fiber Diet group.

The exhibit is on display August 3-31, 2011. The art gallery will open for viewing during Singer Hill Café regular hours, 7 days a week: Monday, 7am to 6pm, Tuesday- Saturday, 7am to 8pm and Sunday, 8am to 5pm. For information on gallery sales, contact Karen Grondin at 971-207-2354.

Bonnie Bucknam Awarded Best of Show at Quilt National 2011

Bonnie Bucknam's quilt Crater was named Best of Show at the May 27th opening of Quilt National 2011 in Athens, Ohio. The exhibition is at the Dairy Barn Arts Center through September 5, 2011. It will then tour the country for approximately two years. You can see some photos of the installation at the Dairy Barn's Facebook page. Maude Kerns Art Center & Gallery, Eugene

Here's a great report on the Eugene showing of "Birds Eye View" from Bonnie Bucknam:

My friend Mary and I took a drive down to Eugene, Oregon, yesterday to see our quilts at the Maude Kerns Art Center. It was a great day. We had all kinds of weather, from pouring rain, to hail, to sunny blue skies. The gallery is located on the university campus in an old renovated church.

The show, Fiber2 (really Fiber "squared" or to the 2nd power - I can't insert the correct character here) consisted of High Fiber Diet's Bird's Eye View show plus two exhibits by the Eugene fiber group Loosely Bound. The local public radio station, KLCC, did a review of the show on February 27, 2011. Click here to hear the review. Click on the Maude Kerns line near the top of the listings.

The gallery has a small gift shop with lots of unique items, many by the artists showing in the gallery. In one corner they made a nice exhibit of my quilts, paintings and books. Mary's collage cards are on the rack.

This grouping is small quilts made by the Loosely Bound artists. What a great way to display small works. Each was mounted on an 8" x 8" wooden cradle board that had been painted black. The unity of color and the mounting technique really pulled together these works by different artists. Each work was for sale individually, and the work I saw was priced from $50 to $75.

The show is worth seeing and is up for only a few more days, until March 25th. Do try to stop by if you are in the area.

Back to Nature: An Exhibit by High Fiber Diet, opens Thursday, March 3 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland Oregon. An opening reception will be held Thursday night from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the church gallery. Works by SAQA Oregon members Mary Arnold, Catherine Beard, Chris Brown, Bonnie Bucknam, Gerrie Congdon, Georgia French, Mary Goodson, Terry Grant, Laura Jaszkowski, and Karen Miller are included. I just got a call this morning to tell me of the passing of long-time HFD member Shirley Falconer. Shirley made charming, whimsical quilts with a message, and was, herself, a great spirit. She will be missed. We extend our condolences to her husband, David and their family.

White Sturgeon Gallery Reception

We had a fairly nice turn out for the opening of the show this afternoon. Many thanks to Mary Arnold for the delicious refreshments.

The Gallery is upstairs, and some of the quilts are hung in the stairwell as an invitation to come up and see more.

My quilts were hung together which delighted me. The curator said she loved how the colors worked together. I do think that the details in the Meander piece stand out more next to the other piece.

She hung all of the cool color quilts together on one wall. I think this worked very well.

Here is a sample of the beautiful pottery that is sharing gallery space with us.

Seeing the pieces in a new environment, makes them seem new again. I really enjoyed the show. If you couldn't make it today, I hope you will get out to see our show in this beautiful building.

Bird's Eye View Opens at the Vancouver White Sturgeon Gallery

The exhibit will be on display at the White Sturgeon Art Gallery at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way in Vancouver, Washington, July 10 through August 28, 2010. The Gallery is open 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. Admission is free. The opening reception is Saturday, July 10 from 2 - 4 pm at the Gallery. Bird's Eye View Opening in Camas

The Camas Library is a beautiful building, with a nice gallery on its upper floor. It was the perfect size for our show, Bird's Eye View, and we had a very nice opening reception there on Friday evening, May 7.

Lovely food!

In the interest of full disclosure, this darling little girl is my granddaughter. You will see her in several of the photos. She had a good time finding the photo of a piece in our book, then identifying it on the wall. It's never too soon to foster art appreciation in children!

You can see the show at the Camas Library gallery through the end of May.

Line Dance

“What would happen,” we wondered, “if each of us made a piece that had a common element? A green line, that danced from piece to piece, to suit the vision of each artist,
yet spoke to the others in the room.”

High Fiber Diet's Line Dance exhibit was shown at the Umpqua Community Art Center in Roseburg in April, 2009; at the Oregon Garden in February, 2010 and at the First Unitarian Church, Portland in March, 2010.
